Third trimester woes

I'm 32 weeks along, and -- dare I say it? -- it's almost time to retire the heels. Not all of them, mind you. Just the 4 inchers. Thankfully, my feet haven't swollen to the point of looking like potatoes, but they have been a little puffy lately. So I've invested in some flats as well as some espadrilles.
The things that are happening to my body are unbelievable. I'll save you the graphic details, but suffice it to say it's a little scary.
Scarier yet is the whole idea of the actual labor. Jon and I went to our first childbirthing prep class Thursday. Up until this point, I haven't really been freaked out about the whole labor thing, but after that class, I can genuinely say, HOLY CRAP! I am freaking out!! How do women do it?!
Even the thought of getting an epidural is freaking me out. Oye.
We finally picked a pediatrician, so one thing's been crossed off our list! We still have a lot to do, though. We also picked out a paint color for the nursery. It's called banana split and it's a bright sunny yellow. I think it'll go nicely with the pattern we picked out. Jon spent most of the day painting, while I cleaned out my closet (it's been getting a little crowded what with all the maternity clothes).
So that's the update, folks. We're getting closer!

Time Flies!!!

Man we are getting close!! G's already 30 weeks, can't believe it, time just seems to be flying by. I'm so excited, I can't wait for him to be here, but it's good that we have 10 weeks or so to go because we still have a lot to do. At least we are starting to get some stuff together and not waiting until the last minute. Although we still need to get the nursery painted and organized. We got some diapers stocked up, clothes, a crib, and we spent about 5 hours this last Sunday registering, which was fun and tiring at the same time.

New York was a great little trip. Dave (G's brother) lives on the upper east side of Manhattan, which is like a rich suburb. Every one had a Bugaboo stroller, the $900 one. We saw at least 10-15 a day. The funniest thing was when we walked by this cafe and there was about 6 of the parked out front on the sidewalk as the mom's where inside. G said we should grab one and run, after making sure there was no baby in it of course.

G's doing great! She is getting sore and tired a lot easier, but that is to be expected. Jordan is moving a ton, too. I can feel him most of the time, which is really awesome, and he seems to kick pretty hard (pro soccer player?). He gets really active at night though he seems to settle down enough so Giselle can sleep.

Well, I'll try to blog more often, but for now I better get started on dinner (don't want G to have to wait too long).

Furniture

Over dinner with friends, the attention inevitably turned to our off-white couch, and whether or not we plan on keeping it once Jordan gets mobile. My initial reaction was, "Of course! Why would we get rid of it?"

But then, my friends Kate and Lisa pointed out the obvious -- white couch + kid = disaster waiting to happen.

Talk about a wake up call. Are these the compromises you have to make as parents??

I really don't want to get rid of our couch, nor any of our other fancy furniture, just because of a rambunctious little tyke, but as the saying goes, kids will be kids. And they will make a mess. So, do I live with it? Or do I succumb to a living room full of bean bags and tables wrapped in bubble wrap? Jon and I decided we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

In the meantime, we did buy one kid-friendly piece of furniture -- a wall mount to hang our flat screen TV away from messy little hands.

Plans? What plans?

I can't believe I'm officially in my third trimester. I'm 28 weeks as of Wednesday.

So with all that, the clock seems to be ticking and I feel like we haven't done anything to prepare. Well, at least we've picked out pattern for the baby's room, but that's really about it. No crib, no paint, no stocking up on the basics. I guess you could say we're deadline-oriented!

Besides preparing for Jordan's arrival, I'm also freaking out because I have all these trips planned out (in my head, anyway) and I really have very little time to go on them. And that is, if my doctor will even allow me to travel.

I'm not one to plan ahead most of the time, so this whole planning thing is really beyond me. Welcome to parenthood, right?

Hot child in the city

Wow, what a weekend! Jon and I decided to take a jaunt up to NYC to visit my brother and to do some last minute shopping. For me, of course.
I made the pilgrimage to H&M -- the one in Herald Square carries maternity clothes -- and I found a good amount of stuff. The next day, we perused the streets of Soho, where some of the best street shopping can be done. Our final day, we hit up all the fancy-schmancy baby stores on the Upper East Side, where Dave lives. We went nuts with the delicate, French baby clothes. They're just so friggin' cute! Jordan's uncle David even bought him his first little fancy outfit and a stuffed frog (natch).
While we had a blast shopping, we walked our asses off. And I will say, I'm so out of shape. Our first day there, we tromped across all of midtown and I was dying by the end of the day. My back ached, my legs were as big as tree trunks and I was so winded walking just a few blocks. I used to say that I don't even feel pregnant, but no more! I waddled like a bona fide pregnant chick.
Aches and pains aside, I soldiered through, canckles be damned. I even managed to climb up (sprint in some cases) up to David's FOURTH FLOOR walk-up apartment. That was torture.
All in all, we had a fantastic time. We ate our way across the city, we saw Russell Simmons hanging out next to his Maybach and we even partied until 2 a.m. in some cases! One last hurrah, right?
And we couldn't have picked a more perfect weekend. The weather was a pleasant 70 to 75 degrees during the day, not a cloud in the sky. Evenings were breezy and nice. Perfect!
It was sad to go, but don't cry for me, NYC. I've got Miami on my radar. I'm feeling the need for a little sun!

Time flies

I had my monthly doctor's appointment yesterday. Things are looking good, as per the dr., but I was surprised to find out how big little Jordan actually is. He weighs over a pound now and is about the size of a doll. More surprisingly to me is the fact that my uterus has stretched way beyond my bellybutton and is just under my rib cage. Crazy! I had no idea I was that big.
All this brought to light that, wow. July will be here before we know it. Our doctor also recommended we start searching for a pediatrician. So we'll probably kick off that search in the upcoming weeks.
In the meantime, we're very excited to see everyone for the baby shower. Save the date--May 31 is when we'll be holding it. And it's not gonna be your typical shower. Think of it as more of a baby party!

From Pooters

Damn, this keyboard is tough to type on with these paws!!

Anyways, wanted to update y'all from Dog Heaven.

I'm doing great here (can't you tell from the pic). Nothin' but lakes to swim in and squirrels to chase. I've re-united with a bunch of old time friends. Shanie was there to meet me and her and another cool dog, Rascal, showed me the ropes. I even ran into Skitzy (she's still a cranky SOB).

Well enough about me, just wanted to let everyone know I'm doing fine and we all say hi and send our love.

So Jordan, a little advice, don't poop on the couch or bed, doesn't go over well!!! I did prep them for cleaning up poop and pee, but just watch were you let go. You are one lucky dude. You've got one great Moms and Pops. They did a great job with me and I know they will do the same for you. I'm sad that I didn't get to meet you, but I will always be watching over you and I know that Mom and Dad will tell you all about me.

Just remember "I AM THE BEST KISSER"!!! Have the award to show for it.

Ohhh, squirrels are running!!! I'm out!

Love,

Bailey
